Animation 01

Today (Wednesday) I have managed to have the images for the proposed animation cells scanned and sent to my school e-mail address however I cannot access my e-mails on the computers in class. Although the cells have been scanned in they are unfortunately in PDF documents as appose to JPEG although this isn't ideal Simon has said that we may be able to work with the cells.

Perhaps the images can be converted into a more suitable format.

The cells of the animation I have at this moment are of a guitarist and a close up of the guitarist's hand.

More thinking...

today (Sunday), I have looked at more 'Dethklok' music videos, this has helped me understand the effectivness of cell animation...

As I have said in a previous post, the great things about the 'Dethklok' music videos is that they are basic with screen effects added to detract the viewers attention from the sometimes static images, also most of the guitar footage is looped.

Animation Ideas

Both myself and Simon have come up with a storyboard of ideas.

(need simon to send it)
(This is a video with lyrics only to be played along side the storyboard)

I have begun drawing out possible character stance and arm movement.

Planning 1.6

Today I have seen a music video that is animated, and works exceptionally well.

The great thing about this video is that the animation itself is stylised and has a combination of on screen effects to retract the viewers attention from the sometimes still images.

This may be the better animation route that I can take as the characters as basic.

Research

I have looked at a anime music video for "the best of you" purely by mistake, and for what it was it was good.

Planning 1.5

I have managed to obtain a guitar, however i do not know for how long...

I have also decided to start drawing out possible routes the video can go down.

Planning 1.4

After yet more thinking I starting to think that the song that I had originally chosen "The Pretender" may be more difficult than originally thought, although the official music video is basic and I had got most of the inspiration from it.

Planning 1.3

From research I have found that animation works at approximately 10 frames per second therefore a animated video for the song I want to do, would have approximately 4,250 pictures to represent the frames.

Another starting point I that I had thought of was still following he animation route but instead of the whole thing been animated, there would be a comic book-like clip showing each panel but have only small impact points segments of the song animated.

Planning 1.2

I have managed to find the Lyrics for the song "the pretender"

Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
Keep you in the dark
And so it all began

Send in your skeletons
Sing as their bones go marching in again
They need you buried deep
The secrets that you keep are ever ready
Are you ready?

I'm finished making sense
Done pleading ignorance
That whole defense

Spinning infinity
Boy, the wheel is spinning me
It's never ending, never ending
Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say that I will never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

In time or so I'm told
I'm just another soul for sale, oh well
The page is out of print, we are not permanent
We're temporary, temporary
Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

I'm the voice inside your head you refuse to hear
I'm the face that you have to face, mirrorin' your stare
I'm what's left, I'm what's right, I'm the enemy
I'm the hand that'll take you down, bring you to your knees
So who are you? Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you? Yeah, who are you?

Keep you in the dark, you know they all pretend

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

What if I say you're not like the others?
(Keep you in the dark)
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
(You know they all pretend)
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?
(Keep you in the dark)
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
(You know they all pretend)
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?

So who are you? Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?

Planning 1.1

Following the animation route there are many other forms of animation that an entire moving picture, animation may also be in comic art style and  have only set parts animated such as the impact points of an instrument for instance.

Below is part 1 of 4, of the Uncharted: eye of indra motion comic.
Ok so this isn't a music video,  but it does have a nice stylized look to it, and sums up my thinking into where to go next.

Planning 1.0

As the first part of my planning I have reduced the amount of songs that I would like to do to around three songs by Foo Fighter's.

The Music video for the song is basic with many different camera shots with varied lengths and few transitions.

Also I feel that filming with others may present various timetable conflicts, perhaps I should follow the animation route. And whats more if I can take and obtain a photo of the hall from the gallery...

Research 1.1 (13 June)

Due to varied problems and such I have been unable to obtain a guitar.

Instead however I have been looking at music videos by various artists.

The first music video I have looked at is Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit"

The style of this video is animated and may well be a reasonable starting point to my own music video.
The characters used although they appear to be drawn out and animated they do not appear to be too complex.

The second music video I have looked at is SUM-41's "What we're all about"

Even though this song/music video was used as a marketing campaign for the 2002 movie 'Spiderman' there are a fair few neat ideas that I may be able to use.

Such as the unreal use of gravity.

The Third music video I have researched is Foo Fighter's "The Pretender"

This may be a easy song to shoot video footage for as there are few transitions  required.

Research 01

Okay, so this is the part 1 of my research into "pop" music videos.

Definition of 'Pop' music:
noun
music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love

("although I had always thought that 'Pop' meant popular...")

For the beginning part of my research I have decided to look at how a Guitar is held, ("I used to play as a child, admittedly I was not very good")

Breif

For my A2 Media Studies Coursework I have chosen Task 1.

To create a promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together
with two of the following three options:

.
a website homepage for the band;
.
a cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package);
.
a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).
